jen's sporadic music post blog
Potential new name for this blog?
Haha Jamie has been nonexistant for about a year, and I come and go every so often.
I really want to resurrect this blog. Considering my summer is officially starting in a week - official in the way that Ill be doing almost nothing so that Ill have time daily to download new music, get 50 songs/6 albums on my ipod per week, and get shittered on week nights.
Ive been listening to some mellow music lately. I torrented Bon Iver's album a few weeks ago. I dont even know when its supposed to come out but I was under the impression that I got a leaked version way ahead of the masses (badass, I know). Regardless, its a great listen and it reflects the mood I am in when walking to school in morning. The blog I just linked below puts the style well: "A bucolic, mellifluous ripple of eloquence from the Midwestern hinterlands that is both effervescent and demure." Okay thats really not what my life is like. But that sums up this entire album amazingly.
Holocene is probably one of my favourite songs on the album. Its hauntingly beautiful and magnificent. I can only find covers of this song on youtube, so here is a link to that other blog lol: http://www.melophobe.com/fifty-word-reviews/bon-iver-bon-iver/
I doubt anyone still reads this so Jenn of the future, just look at your ipod.
One of my friends also showed me this song from Explosions in the Sky last week. It even more so captured what my life feels like in one song. I think I listened to it on repeat for about 3 days.. Im surprised I had not downloaded it earlier. Its even in the famous coaches speech scene in the movie Friday night lights. Instrumental music can really be powerful.
Side note, Jamie went to NXNE this past weekend while I was stuck in London. If he could remember that this blog exists, maybe he could do a post about all the shitfire bands he saw/discovered. But Im just wishful thinking here
Back to orgo studying for me...

ive always been childish, call me maggie simpson
Hello blog world,
Its been roughly 6 months since I last posted...which is way too long. Lots of things have happened since then, and lots of good music has passed us by. I'm in the middle of exams so I figure I can procrastinate a bit by blogging, lol.
My recent obsession is Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover. He got his name from a Wu-Tang Clan name generator, haha badass. Donald is also a triple threat - writer, actor, rapper. He wrote a bit for 30 rock, he is in the TV show Community (good show btw), and he is an unreal rapper. I first saw this guy in the Derrick Comedy youtube videos from back in the high school days. Hes come pretty far since then..
I cant stop listening to his rap stuff. He has some pretty clever lines. Here are some I enjoy:
- e.e. cummin' on her face, now thats poetry in motion
- fucking bitches left and right, my dick is ambidextrous
- im running this bitch, youre just a dog walker
- fuck macaulay culkin, never going home alone
- NBC is not the only thing im coming on tonight
- im so cheesy, ho, my swag's got high cholesterol (this line relates to my life pretty well, haha)
Here's his first music video ever for the song Freaks and Geeks. Its aight:
(aw man i cant make youtube vids cool colours anymore, and proper formatting is tough shit).
Furthermore, check out the Jamie xx remix of Adele's rolling in the deep ft. Childish, his remix of AOTL called break, or pretty much anything from his mixtapes. Donald/Childish is coming to Toronto on May 16 to do some stand up for his Iamdonald tour. I wish I could go but unfortunately, I am starting intercession that day and will be in Londy.
This tumblr is also my new favourite. Who knew Gambino lines and hipster pics would go so well together? http://hipsterchildishgambino.tumblr.com/
Anyway, happy exam studying people! (And hopefully this nice weather holds up. We dont need any more snow in London, eff)
Keep it dope,
Jen(n)

strike or no strike?
Man, I really wish I knew now whether or not this strike was happening so that I could actually have some motivation to work. I've been procrastinating madcore on studying and instead have been facebook creeping, checking the UWOFA bargaining updates site constantly, and of course, looking up new music (thank you hypemachine).

So since it was halloween yesterday, and this band has Horror in its name, and they just released the video a few days ago featuring some guy who reminds me of Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama, I figured I'd share it with y'all. The video also has some pretty shots, I enjoy it.
Zoidberg:

Also, I really really really want a strike to happen (that is if it lasts for less than 10 days). I really need a holiday.
November reading week anyone?
p.s. youtube or vimeo? hmm

its cold outside
So here's a song to warm you up.
A few days ago, Crystal Castles re-released one of their songs off Crystal Castles II with Robert Smith, of the Cure fame. This song is awesome. Crystal castles + the cure??!?!?! Omg, how could I not be in love? I am not not in love with this song
I just realized its actually a cover of some old 80's song (not in love by platinum blonde). Oh well, its still good nonetheless and better than the original

first post in over a month! yahhh
So it's been forever since I posted (my bad) but I have been extremely busy with school/RAing/extra-curricular activities/fucking shit up.
So here's some feel good pop music. This band is from Reykjavík, Iceland and they play shows with 3 of their core members plus whoever else in their band shows up (up to 8 ppl). The core of the band is made up of Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson, Árni Vilhjálmsson, and Lóa Hlín Hjálmtýsdóttir. Those are the coolest fucking names ever!!!! Icelandic names are the shit.
Yeah its old, but fairly enjoyable. Also, don't mind the shittay music video. It's been a while since I've found new music, but I'll get on it.
Peace out girl scouts,
Jenn
